gettysburg, pa: part two.

I left you, in my previous post, as we were about to embark on our driving tour of Gettysburg.  We purchased the auto tour cd in the visitor center gift shop, ate a good lunch in the cafeteria, and set out on our 2.5 hour {okay maybe 4 hours with all of the exploring we did at each stop} drive to the battle sights.  I have to tell you, this route is so well-marked, especially with the free map and the cd's instructions.  Signs are posted all along the route and at every turn, so all you have to do it be on the lookout for them.  When in doubt, don't turn, but stay the course and look for the red & white star signs {I only had to learn the hard way a couple of times}.  Some kind of monument is always in view, so you really can't get too lost.  And the canons?  They are all along the route.  According to the cd, there were 600 canons used during the Battle of Gettysburg and 400 of them remain today {authentic and everything!}.  There are also plenty of opportunities to get out of the car and climb around - two towers and lots of rocks.  And photo opportunities are aplenty too {obviously from my crazy amount of photos}.  I have a feeling the Autumn foliage would have made this trip even more stunning, had we been able to visit two weeks earlier {I'm thinking more beginning or mid-October}, but Spring and Summer would be gorgeous as well.

There's still way more to share, so I'll wrap this Gettysburg stuff up tomorrow!

Stay safe, East-Coasters!
