our first pittsburgh fourth of july and a darn good one at that.

The day started off with me in the kitchen, making the house smell wickedly awesome of baking strawberry oatmeal bars. The aromas continued as I slow cooked a beef brisket in the oven all. day. long.  Oh the heavenly smells!  We passed the day lounging around home and then went to the movie theater to see Despicable Me 2 {very cute}. Then it was dinner time!!!  The moment I had been waiting for!  I plopped that tangy, moist, shredded brisket on a slice of warm Texas toast and it was as marvelous as I had imagined!  I got lucky.
I do apologize for a lack of family photos, but Jackson took my sunblock recommendation a little too late the other day at the pool and he's currently a shirtless lobster and is adamantly declining any photo opportunities.

Moving on... Fireworks!!!

It turns out our little township puts on quite the fireworks display! We parked in the mall parking lot {along with the whole rest of everyone else} and had a fantastic view. Last year we were all split up on the 4th, so it was nice to have us all together this time around. Pittsburgh has been good to us, as we are getting ready to wrap up our first year in this city. Tonight felt like a little celebration of our accomplishments. Home is where you make it.
