a morning date to see about a giant, yellow duck.

I never thought in my whole life that I'd be waking up early to head downtown with Husband to see a big, yellow rubber ducky.
Yet here I am.
It's just one of those fleeting opportunities you can't pass up, you know?  Years from now when we're talking about that Fall of 2013 when the Pirates made the playoffs and the Steelers were a big, fat zero and four, we'll remember about that duck floating about in the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers.
The Steelers just can't get it together this year.
We'll say.
But we still have our Pirates.
And at least we had that duck.

And now to take it even further into a football topic, how about those Seattle Seahawks!!!
4 and 0, baby!
I think we were the happiest family in Pittsburgh yesterday.
I was so happy I ordered myself a Seahawks jersey and I'm just going to let myself get all into this football business.
This is huge.
I love football.
Did I really just confess that in writing?

p-inspriration: kid spaces

Those dioramas above the bed in the top photo?  A-maz-ing!  I think I'm going to have to divide my Autumn days between schoolwork and diorama-making.  That's not creepy, right?

Although it's fun to browse through Pinterest and "borrow" ideas and inspiration, in all honesty right now the kids in this house just desperately need some storage and organization.  Somehow all three of them are collectors of little things that amass everywhere.  Clean dressers and nightstands don't stand a chance.  But maybe... just maybe, we can use that little crap to make cute dioramas.  I can hear my kids cheering now!  Oh wait.  I don't think that's cheering.

One kid has put in a request for chalkboard paint and I 100% support that idea.  One would like to build a big, blue TARDIS {police box from Dr. Who} and put it in his room and that's a wee bit more complex.  The other kid would like to move out of her bedroom and have her own apartment {soon child, very soon}.

Let's start with chalkboard paint.  And a diorama or two.

husband wins father of the year for taking his kids to pittsburgh's comic-con!

No children were harmed in the production of this photograph.
I believe we're looking at Stockbroker Spiderman, a cute Assassin, a Halo dude, and a young Dr. Who.
Jackson is truly in his element.
A random awesome guy in camo.
And the highlight, meeting the original Boba Fett from Start Wars.

I'm sick and stuck at home, but that didn't stop Husband from taking Jack and McKenna to the Pittsburgh Comic-Con.  This was a first-time family experience.  Jackson really, really wanted to go.  In fact, he'd been planning his costume since the beginning of summer, so of course, he had to go.  He dressed as Dr. Who and helped his sister put together her Assassin's Creed costume and off they went.

The kids had fun.  Probably Jackson enjoyed it the most, while Husband was entertained by the phenomenal people-watching, and McKenna thought "the people were weird."

There's something out there for everyone, isn't there?

Next up on the blog...
A giant, yellow rubber ducky takes over Pittsburgh!
I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

glorious sunshine.

I feel so blessed each morning, to be waking up to a sunrise blaring in through the kitchen windows.  I don't think you'll ever hear me complaining about too much sun in my eyes while I'm trying to get breakfasts and lunches made before the kids scurry off to school.  Come on in sunshine, stay as long as you like.

The sunlight hours are definitely shrinking, here in Pennsylvania.  It's pitch dark by 7:30pm and it's hard to imagine that it will be the case at 5:30pm very soon.  Thank goodness the days have been filled with warm sunshine and bright light.  I run on solar power.  The leaves are just beginning to do their thing although the flowers are still acting like summer never left. It's the best of both worlds.
Can we just put things on pause right now?
Just for a little longer?

seizing the wear.

I'm not sure exactly what my arms are doing in this second photo but I remember trying really hard to cop a more natural pose.  Nailed it.  `

Wearing:
Banana Republic sweater
J. Crew Factory gingham
thrifted jeans
Nordstrom boots

Is everyone sick at your house too?  We're passing a cold around like a hot potato and I'm sure it's going to get tossed at me next.  Tis the season.  Speaking of tis the seasons, McKenna is listening to Christmas music already.  She wants a hippopotamus for Christmas, only a hippopotamus will do {such a great song!}. I find myself singing along with her and I can't believe I'm really singing noels while making dinner when it's still September out.  I'm usually such an adherer to calendrical order, but I have to admit that I'm getting pretty excited for the holidays already.  :)

Halloween first, though peeps.  Halloween first.  I know.

PS. "Adherer to calendrical order?"
Who talks like that?
Me, I guess.

halloween p-inspiration.

It's not even October, but in a blogger's world, holiday dreaming comes a bit farther in advance.
Do you notice that too?
My dear friend Carleigh {who needs to be pressured to blog way more!!!} is ready to put up Christmas decorations right now, so I'm pretty sure I'm safe blogging about Halloween.  It's just that the leaves are starting to turn red here in the fine state of Pennsylvania and it rained all day yesterday and it's a little bit chilly today and I saw pumpkins lined up neatly on tables outside of Fresh Market.
It's time.

I'm getting pumped for trinkly lights {you say twinkly, I say trinkly}, pumpkins lined up along the porch, and a terrifically spooky skeleton dude hanging from our front tree.
And candy corns!!!!!!!
I know there are candy corn haters out there and I don't want to hear any of your nonsense.  :)
