because, vermont.

We knew about a week ago that there was a chance we were going to arrive in Vermont just in time to watch the snow melt, and that is exactly what happened.  The temperatures fluctuated wildly during our drive; 32 degrees in Syracuse, a high of 59 at the highest elevation enroute to Vermont, and back down to 40 in Manchester.  I have to tell you, though, that even through patches of fog and all-encompassing gray clouds, Vermont is absolutely, magically beautiful.  Pine trees were a welcome sight, for this Northwest-bred family!  And those mountains!!!  They're small, but we'll take em!  It's amazing what a mountainous backdrop can do for one's soul.

Speaking of being good for the soul, we stopped for lunch at Chauncey's Family Restaurant in Arlington.  If you follow me on Instagram, then you had a peek at my delicious meal inside that decked-out-in-Vermont-cuteness place (if not, peek at the flashing photos on my sidebar).  YUM!  As if delicious food +PIE, friendly service, and holiday decor wasn't enough, we watched a local holiday train chug-a-chug on by, right outside our window.

I couldn't make up this stuff if I tried.
Because, Vermont.
