teacher wear: sporty floral

Oh boy, oh boy!  A few days off has been just what I needed!
Thanks to two-day science training for my host teacher, I am experiencing an extended weekend!  That's just what the doctor ordered.
Especially because those little third-graders are starting to come down with colds and little sicknesses and those nasty germs are not what I need right now, you know what I mean?  :)
Coughing and sniffling on repeat.  Ew.

At this point, I'm on fire, in the preclinical student-teaching department.  I'm getting two tasks done each week and at that rate I'll be done in a few weeks!  This means I'll have the month of November and December OFF!!!  And then the real crazy happens in January, with 12 weeks of legit student-teaching.  I am so looking forward to that (hooray!!!).  Currently, the field site specialist (for my university) is looking for a school to host me during my student-teaching.  I had applied to do it at the school where I am currently working on my preclinical tasks, but for some unknown reason have been told, "not available."  I'd like to think it isn't because of me, personally, so that's the story I'm sticking with.  :)  Anyway, my fingers are crossed now, for the school district we live in or a neighboring one!  No morning commute is a great commute!!! That said, I'd actually just be happy landing anywhere.  And soon.  Just one more thing to check off the old to-do list.

teacher wear: gingham + pleats

Oh my goodness, what a week!!!  I was tempted to type that out in all caps, but didn't want to appear shouty, just passionately relieved that it's Friday.  :)

This week, because of my lesson plans needing to fit into daily school schedules, I was in the classroom Tuesday through Friday.  That is a little more days in one week than I intended to ever do, but it is what it is and I am grateful for the eye opening experience of what it's like to work full time and all that goes along with it.  I actually have had more energy this week than I have had in awhile.  I come home from the school, sit for a minute, toss in a load of laundry, help with homework, make some dinner (except for last night when Husband took me out on a date!), do dishes, do more laundry, put on some jammies, do some of my own homework, watch some t.v., make the next day's lunches, tuck some kids in, hop into bed, read a bit of Jack Reacher, and finally fall asleep so very, very hard.  It actually feels good to be genuinely busy again (even if I whine about it sometimes).

So far, I have implemented a P.E. lesson plan with the third graders and a two-day Social Studies lesson.  I have had so much fun during these times.  I know for sure that teaching is for me, which is a super great thing to be sure about when one's at the end of their educational experience, right?  I get great feedback from the kids and that's always nice.  I make sure they know that I appreciate their patience, as I teach them.  They can be so sweet (when they're not busy being naughty :).

teacher wear: summer to fall

By Summer to Fall, I mean put a sweater on it.
So much originality for one outfit post.

I'm keeping it short tonight.  I've got a paper to knock out and a lesson plan to mentally practice.  Tomorrow I'm giving my first lesson in the third grade classroom and I really want it to go well!  And by well, I mean FUN!

teacher wear: navy + green

After a whole weekend of football, it definitely feels like Fall now!  A whole day of football on t.v. is great for me because I can just sit down and do school work, while listening to the games.  I was able to get some good lesson planning done!  And when the games got a little boring (because sometimes they do), I got up and cleaned the bathrooms, wrote out a grocery list, and went shopping for this week's meals.  And last night's dinner.  Because game day means EATS.  Last night is was all about a build-your-own-nacho bar, fried chicken, bbq wings, good bread, and chocolate-covered strawberries.    Football is delicious.

Another thing about Fall and being back in school, is that the kids are suddenly social butterflies again.  Jack and McKenna were out and about with friends this weekend, which is something Husband and I totally love and support.  I don't know what happened to us that led us down a path of rather-be-at-home-than-out-with-other-people, but we don't wish that upon our kids and sincerely enjoy seeing them happy and active with friends.  It's good stuff.

What is not good stuff, however, is that little kitten has decided to sleep all day and terrorize the sleeping humans all night long.  She is so so cute, so it's hard not to let her get away with everything.  But the problem is, she loves being in the same room as people and so she just won't go off and play somewhere.  She also enjoys blasting down the hallway, running from room to room, attacking curtains and bedskirts and anything else she can ruffle.  Last night I finally had to lock her up in the laundry room, after she knocked over a mirror in McKenna's room and frightened that poor girl half to death.  So, today!  Today I am buying a safety gate for the stairs!  And the humans in this house are taking back our sleep!!!!

teacher wear: target dress

This dress is at Target right NOW.  It's pretty and comfy and basic enough that you can jazz it up any old way you want.  I'm imagining the cardigans and jackets and shoes and boots I can wear with this thing.  And did I mention comfort?  There's a little stretch and give, but not too much.  It still sucks in all the things that need sucking in.  :)

teacher wear: ankle pants

Here are those painful shoes again.  They're just so pretty.  And I'm obviously out to punish myself with them.

I'm still going through and wearing the teaching outfits I put together during my closet reorganization.  It sure has made things easier each a.m.  Actually, I try to set the outfit out the night before, to make things that much more smooth in the mornings.  Especially because Husband has been out of town so much lately.  It's just me making sure the two kids are awake, get some breakfast, and have everything ready for school - all while I'm trying to get ready myself.  Honestly, it's not that hard.  I mean, my kids are able to get themselves prepared and out the door.  I just like to make myself available because I still like to be needed just a little bit.  :)

Anyway, look at me wearing ankle pants that actually hit my ankles!  Petites!  I just really discovered them.  I'm slow.  If I had discovered petite sizes years earlier, perhaps that one lady would never have had to ask me, "Are those supposed to be capri's?"  I'm sure she meant it as a compliment, right?

almost there.

Things are still pretty green here in Pittsburgh, but Fall is in the air, I can feel it!

I like to walk around the yard and take photos every once in awhile, so that I have proof that warmth once existed. Because winter can be cruel and everlasting, can it not? Summer flew by as usual and it was a wonderful break from just about everything. I am excited to get back to work though.  I do so much better when I have goals and, well... purpose. Purpose is good. Right now I have loads of purpose. This is going to be such a huge fall and winter for me, finishing up with my student teaching - let's just get on with it already!!! And then it'll be graduation.
I know how to stretch out a degree, oh my word. I have been working on this for so long and now I am finally really, truly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Twelve more assignments, one more test, and then 12 weeks of demonstration teaching - that's all folks!

No fear.

just another kitten post.

She's just so so so cute and the camera loves her.  :)

teacher wear: chevron & lace

Here's teaching outfit number 3 (of 31) I put together during my closet reorganization, in order to make my mornings a little bit easier.  These two pieces are pretty much a given that they belong together, right?  If I was a teensy more willing to put up with discomfort, I'd have preferred to wear a nude sandal with some heel, but the one cute pair I have makes fart sounds when I walk and that wasn't going to cut it (I said cut it :)).  So, I made these little sandals work and it was just fine.  And way less embarrassing than having to explain a cheese-cutting pair of shoes.

Oh my goodness this post is random.
